Prosecutor Files Applications for Arrest Warrants
On 29 October 2023, International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor Karim AA Khan KC visited the Rafah Border Crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip. This visit was part of his official visit to Israel and the State of Palestine, making him the first ICC Prosecutor to do so.
During his visit, Prosecutor Khan met with Palestinian officials and representatives of civil society organizations. He also visited the site of an alleged Israeli airstrike that killed several Palestinian civilians, and met with victims and their families.
In a statement released after his visit, Prosecutor Khan said that he was "deeply concerned" by the situation in the Gaza Strip, and that he would be filing applications for warrants of arrest for individuals suspected of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity.
