Cubs Acquire Michael Busch and Yency Almonte from Dodgers
Chicago sends Jackson Ferris and Zyhir Hope to Los Angeles
The Chicago Cubs have acquired infield prospect Michael Busch and right-handed reliever Yency Almonte from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for low-A pitcher Jackson Ferris and outfielder Zyhir Hope, the teams announced Tuesday.
Busch, 24, is ranked No. 44 on MLB Pipeline's Top 100 prospects list. He hit .299 with 24 home runs and 95 RBIs in 115 games between Double-A and Triple-A last season.
Almonte, 28, has pitched in 127 games over the past three seasons with the Dodgers, posting a 3.32 ERA with 139 strikeouts in 135.1 innings.
The Cubs have been looking to add a bat to their lineup, and Busch fits the bill. He is a left-handed hitter with power and speed, and he can play multiple positions in the infield.
Almonte will add depth to the Cubs' bullpen. He is a hard-throwing right-hander with a good fastball and slider.
The Dodgers, meanwhile, get two young prospects in Ferris and Hope. Ferris, 19, is a right-handed pitcher who was drafted by the Cubs in the first round of the 2021 MLB draft. Hope, 19, is a left-handed hitting outfielder who was acquired by the Cubs in a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2022.
